Small victories. The 9-year-old finally got his cast off this morning. His arm is super skinny and pale, but he is thrilled he can actually take a real shower now. I wore my absolute favorite 1960s black shift dress to the clinic today, just to remind myself that I am still me. Jon didn’t come to the appointment. I didn’t even tell him about it, honestly. I am trying to find a new baseline. The 22-year-old is having us over for dinner tonight at her new apartment and I am actually excited to see her space. Things are messy and complicated and I am definitely still heartbroken, but the world keeps turning. And I still make a killer espresso.
