burnt OUT

I am officially declaring a state of emergency at the coffee bar. Our espresso machine broke down right in the middle of the morning rush. Just totally gave up the ghost. I had a line out the door of angry New Yorkers wanting their lattes, and I had to stand there in my vintage black dress and tell them we only had drip coffee and cold brew. You would have thought I told them the world was ending. People can be so incredibly mean before they’ve had their caffeine. One lady actually yelled at me about her schedule. I just took a deep breath, channeled my inner Xena warrior princess, and calmly offered her a refund. My hands were shaking by the time my shift ended. Not even from the arthritis this time, just pure stress. I took the subway home because I couldn’t deal with sitting in traffic in an Uber. I just wanted to get underground and put my headphones on. I am drinking a massive glass of wine tonight and ignoring everyone.
